Best Sleeper Sedans
Every car enthusiast loves an underrated sleeper. They're stupidly fast yet super discrete. Over the years, many car manufacturers have made many sleeper cars in recent years mainly due to the demand for them. Unfortunately, due to the fact that sleepers are so fast and so discrete, cops love them.
Sleepers scaresports cars, and they even confuse the most experienced gearheads. Sleepers have been around for ages, and there are still many sleeper vehicles on sale today. Here are the ten best sleeper new sleeper cars on sale today.
10 BMW M550i
An M5 on a budget? The M550i isn't far off its big brother with 523hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. That's more than the new BMW M3, which was one of the most controversial cars of 2020. The M550i looks like a normal 5-series with big rims and slightly different exhaust tips. If an M550i was de-badged, most people wouldn't give it a second glance.
The 0-60 takes around 3.8 seconds, which is absolutely mental. Not many cars can keep up with the M550i and the fact that it looks like any ordinary 5-series is even better. If people mistake it for a 530i, they have another thing coming.
9 Audi S8
The Audi S8 is one of the most well-known sleeper cars ever. It is a completely understated car with a 563hp 590lb-ft of torque twin-turbo V8, the same as found in a Lamborghini Urus, packed under the hood. It shoots to 60 in just 3.2 seconds. That's faster than a Lamborghini Huracán 580 or an Audi R8.
The S8 is a very luxurious car, and it's not designed to be sporty. However, when it needs to, it can certainly outrun most cars on the road today. It's a private jet on wheels which can also become a fighter jet if need be.
8 Toyota Camry V6
The Camry is one of the best-selling cars in America. The Camry V6 is a lovely-looking car, but because it is so common, nobody will bat an eyelid when they see one. The V6 model has 300hp and 267 lb-ft of torque which is decent figures. It isn't the most powerful car on this list, but it sure is the most popular.
It hits 60 in 5.8 seconds which is pretty decent. The Camry V6 is a fun car and the engine used in the V6 Camry is also used in Lotus' cars such as the Exige and Evora.
7 Genesis G70 3.3T
Genesis is a full-on sleeper brand. Hardly anybody knows about the new South Korean luxury brand owned by Hyundai mainly because it's new. The G70 3.3T has 368hp and 376 lb-ft of torque which is a hefty amount for any car. It does a 0-60 of 4.7 seconds, which is faster than a standard V6 F-type, and flat out it does around 155 mph.
The G70 3.3T isn't an M3 rival at all. It's more of a 340i rival or an S4 rival, and in some ways, it does beat those cars. It's far more unique and inside it looks nicer too.
6 Mercedes E53 AMG
A hybrid AMG is something that purist AMG fans absolutely detest. The E53 AMG is a mid-level AMG car with a Biturbo V6 instead of a Biturbo V8, and it also has far less power. The 3.0 Biturbo V6 pushes out 429hp whilst the 48V motor pushes out 22hp. In total, this car pushes out 451hp and 384 lb-ft of torque. Not bad for a "softer" AMG.
The E53 has a few subtle touches. Different grille, exhausts, and badges. Nothing too major but it does look pretty nice. It's a car that not many would think is an AMG at all unless you knew your cars.
5 Audi S5
The Audi S5 is a proper sleeper. It looks like a standard A5 de-badged inside and out. It is a quick car. Under the hood, it features a 3.0 turbocharged V6 with 349hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It hits 60 in around 4.8 seconds which is pretty decent for an everyday car. The S5 has always been a low key car, and there is nothing really which sets it apart from a standard A5.
Audi are experts at making a sleeper. Every single "S" model they have made has always looked like a standard car, yet they have all been stupidly fast.
4 BMW M340i
The BMW M340i is a very discrete sedan, that has a few nice touches here and there to differentiate it from say a 330i M Sport. The grille is different, the exhausts are bigger, the wheels are bigger and, of course, the engine has two extra cylinders. Under the hood is a 382hp 369 lb-ft of torque turbo inline-6. The same engine they use in the M40i Z4 and the Supra GR.
It is a great-looking car, but it's nothing that will break necks at all. Most people would think it's just a normal 3-series rather than something with more power than a 2005 Aston Martin Vantage.
3 Volvo S60/V60 Polestar Engineered
This is a car that nobody expects to be fast. You may think that fast Volvos are a thing of the past, and nowadays, they're interested in safe family cars, disappointing GT's and electric cars. Well, you'd be wrong, because, the S60/V60 Polestar is a 400hp hybrid sports sedan.
Under the hood is a 2.0 twin-charged (supercharged and turbocharged) inline-4 and an 11.6 kWh battery pack. It produces 400hp and 476 lb-ft of torque, which is nuts. It hits 60 in 4.2 seconds too which is a shock as this car doesn't look like a fast car at all.
2 VW Golf R
The VW Golf R has always been a sleeper. The cops in the UK actually use it as an undercover car since it is such an understated car. Under the hood is a 2.0 turbocharged engine with the MK8 model having 315hp and a 0-60 of 4.7 seconds. These cars will also be DSH (automatic) only which isn't an issue at all since, with DSG gearbox, the R is considerably faster.
The Golf R has always been understated. It looks really like a normal Golf with a few sporty elements to it. To the average person, it looks like an ordinary car. It is though an absolute monster that has heaps of tuning capability.
1 Tesla Model Y Performance
The Tesla Model Y is a weird-looking thing. It certainly hasn't had the same reception from fans as any other Tesla has had, but either way, it is still a popular car. The Performance is a proper sleeper as it looks like a standard RWD Model Y, but it certainly doesn't go like one. It hits 60 in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.
This car moves like a go-kart due to its low center of gravity. It catches sports cars and even supercars easily whilst carrying 5 people. A completely unassuming car that blends in with every other car quite easily.
